52-Year-Old Man Dies in Petaluma Car Crash on Stoney Point Road near Pepper Road
Petaluma, California (April 18, 2021) – A man was killed and another was arrested following an alleged DUI crash Saturday night in Petaluma, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on April 17, on Stoney Point Road near Pepper Road.
The CHP said Austin Matsler-David, 21, was driving a Honda Civic southbound on Stoney Point Road when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to drift into the northbound lane where it collided with an oncoming Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The impact caused the truck to roll multiple times. The Honda continued southbound on the east shoulder and went over a K-rail barrier before it plunged into a river.
Deadly Car Crash on Stoney Point Road in Petaluma
As the truck was overturning, a 52-year-old man was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Matsler-David was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries before being booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of felony DUI and Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated.
Stoney Point Road between Pepper Road and Rainsville Road was temporarily closed as the authorities examined the scene.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
