Oroville, California (April 16, 2021) – A single-vehicle traffic accident has claimed the life of a passenger Thursday morning in south Oroville and left a driver critically injured, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 8:20 a.m. Thursday, April 15, on Lincoln Boulevard, just south of Helman Street.

A blue Suburban was traveling southbound on Lincoln at a high rate of speed when it attempted to turn into a driveway.

For an unknown reason, the Suburban veered off the roadway, struck a rock and crashed into a garage of a private residence.

The driver and passenger of the Suburban were transported to an area hospital, where the passenger was later pronounced dead. The driver sustained major injuries.

Nobody was inside the garage at the time of the accident.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
