Driver Dies, Four Hospitalized after El Monte Car Crash on Santa Anita Avenue near Valley Boulevard
El Monte, California (March 11, 2021)– A fiery head-on crash has claimed the life of one driver Wednesday night in El Monte and left four other people injured, authorities said.
The deadly accident happened at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, on Santa Anita Avenue, just north of Valley Boulevard.
Authorities said a Toyota 4Runner was heading southbound on Santa Anita Avenue when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered across the center divider into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a northbound Cadillac sedan occupied by a family of four.
As a result of the collision, the 4Runner caught fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the 4Runner was declared dead at the scene. The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
All occupants of the Cadillac were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police closed Santa Anita Avenue between Valley Boulevard and Bryant Road following the crash.
No futher details about the crash were immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
