Siskiyou County, California (February 23, 2021) – A 27-year-old Chico man was killed in a Monday night semi-truck accident north of the City of Weed in the Mount Shasta area in Siskiyou County, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred on Highway 97 near Solus Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevy Silverado, driven by the Chico man, was headed northbound on the highway when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a semi-truck.

Sadly, the Chico man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old man, was not injured in the accident.

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
