Adelanto, California (February 20, 2021) – A 35-year-old man was injured in a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash on Thursday morning in Adelanto, authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 7:06 a.m., February 18, on US Highway 395 and Air Expressway.

According to the officials, a 2002 Dodge Truck, driven by Benjamin Mondragon, 31, of Lucerne Valley, was headed westbound on Air Expressway approaching Highway 395 when it failed to stop at the red light.

Unfortunately, the Dodge reportedly collided with a southbound 2003 Toyota Corolla operated by the 35-year-old man.

Following the collision, the 35-year-old man was trapped in the wreckage and was extricated by the first responders.

Man Injured in Adelanto Crash

The 35-year-old man sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment.

Mondragon and three male adults inside the Dodge ran from the scene. All four subjects were located in the area.

Mondragon was arrested for a hit-and-run crash causing Injury. He was booked into High Desert Detention Center, where he is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.  Mondragon is scheduled for arraignment on February 22.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
