Carpinteria, California (February 3, 2021) – Martin Garcia, 24, of Mexico, was injured Tuesday morning in a traffic accident involving a big rig in the Carpinteria area, according to a local news source.

The single-vehicle crash happened a little before 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, on Highway 101,  just south of the Santa Ynez Avenue overcrossing.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Martin Garcia, 24, of Mexico, was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer on Highway 101 when he made an unsafe turning movement to the right.

The tractor reportedly drifted to the right and slammed into a guardrail. It then continued in a northeasterly direction across the highway’s right shoulder and crashed through a fence.

The tractor came to a stop in a private driveway on Cramer Circle while the trailer flipped on its left side on the right shoulder of the northbound lane of Highway 101.

Minor Injury Truck Accident on Highway 101 in Carpinteria

Garcia was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with minor injuries.

All northbound lanes were closed for several hours while the investigation and cleanup took place.

The crash remains under investigation.
