Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on 110 Freeway in Gardena

Los Angeles, California (February 1, 2021) – A wrong-way motorist was killed and a woman was injured early Monday morning in a head-on collision in the Gardena area of Los Angeles, according to a local news source.

At around 12:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol officers received a report about the accident in the southbound lane of the Harbor (110) Freeway near Gardena Boulevard.

According to the CHP, a 23-year-old man was driving a sedan northbound in the southbound No. 3 lane when his vehicle collided head-on with an SUV that was traveling southbound.

A third vehicle was reportedly involved in the collision.

Deadly Car Crash on Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated a woman who was trapped in the SUV. She was then taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with fractures to her pelvis, an arm and a leg.

The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A couple in the third vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.

All southbound lanes of the freeway in the area were closed due to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
