Alex Herrera Killed in Bicycle Accident on Highway 74 in Menifee

Menifee, California (January 17, 2021)The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed by two vehicles Saturday night in Menifee as Alex Herrera, 43, of Lake Elsinore.

At around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, January 16, the authorities received a report about the accident on Highway 74, just west of Briggs Road.

Herrera was riding his bicycle westbound on Highway 74 when, for unknown reasons, he was struck by a white truck, according to the authorities.

The force of the impact caused Herrera to be launched into eastbound lanes and was hit by another vehicle.

Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the truck stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police.

The second driver fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities managed to get a license plate from the vehicle, which was registered to a Hemet address, near the accident scene.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.  As of Sunday afternoon, no arrest has been made.

The crash remains under investigation.
