San Leandro, California (January 9, 2021) – A Good Samaritan was killed and six other people were injured early Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in San Leandro, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at about 1:00 a.m. on southbound Interstate 880 near the Floresta Boulevard overpass, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 880 when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the rear of another vehicle.

The vehicle that was rear-ended overturned after the impact. Two people were ejected from their vehicles, the CHP said.

A Good Samaritan stopped and got out of their vehicle to help the victims but was hit by another vehicle.

The Good Samaritan was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Six other persons, including the ejected parties, were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and Highland Hospital in Oakland with moderate to severe injuries.

The driver of the first vehicle was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI, but the driver of the second vehicle was not at the crash site.

More details about the accident were not immediately available.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
