Fresno, California (January 3, 2021) – Lourdes Diego, 22, has been identified as the woman who was seriously injured in a Saturday night traffic accident in Fresno, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened just before 11:00 p.m., on January 2, on 41 Freeway at Friant Road on-ramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a male pedestrian was struck by two vehicles on the freeway’s northbound lanes in unclear circumstances.

Following the collision, Diego pulled over onto the center divider to help the pedestrian but was struck by a Honda Civic that braked to avoid the crash, the officials said.

Lourdes Diego Injured in Highway 41 Crash

Sadly, the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Diego sustained major injuries in the accident and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The CHP said all drivers involved in the accident stopped and cooperated with officers.

An investigation into the collision is underway.
