Madera County, California (January 1, 2021) – Ashton Wilfong, 28 of Friant, has been identified as the suspect who was arrested after a Friday morning alleged DUI accident that killed a 41-year-old woman and left a 17-year-old teen seriously injured in Madera County, just west of Friant, authorities said.
The deadly accident occurred on private property east of Road 206 and south of Road 145.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Ram truck, operated by Wilfong, was driving down a hill on the private property when it made an unsafe movement, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its roof.
Ashton Wilfong Arrested after Fatal Madera County Crash
The 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 17-year-old teen was hospitalized with major injuries.
Wilfong was arrested at the scene and booked into Madera County Jail for driving while intoxicated and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Five people were in the vehicle, and none was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
An investigation into the collision is underway.
