Stanislaus County, California (December 25, 2020) – The woman who was injured Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle rollover crash that also left two children injured in Stanislaus County has been identified as Kelle Brassart, 40, of Patterson.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, on southbound Interstate 5, just north of Ingram Creek Road, near Westley.

The CHP said Brassart was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Interstate 5 when, for unknown reasons, the Jeep veered off the roadway and hit a high-tension cable barrier before it flipped over.

The barrier is designed to stop vehicles from crossing the median and entering oncoming lanes.

Brassart was ejected from the vehicle and sustained a fractured spine, multiple head lacerations, and a possible broken right leg. She was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

A 4-year-old child in the left rear passenger seat was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial with a fractured right shoulder and major lacerations and contusions to the head.

A 7-year-old boy, who was riding in the right rear passenger seat, was also ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Memorial with minor injuries, including cuts to his head and right arm.

Authorities said Brassart was not wearing her seatbelt, and both children were not properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Drugs or alcohol were not considered a factor in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
