Kevin Cardenas Killed in Redding Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway
Kevin Cardenas ID’d as Man Hit and Killed by Truck on 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue in Redding
Redding, California (December 11, 2020) – The man who died after being struck by a big rig early Monday morning in Redding has been identified as Kevin Gustavo Cardenas, 28, of Whittier, according to a press release by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
The deadly accident occurred a little after 5:00 a.m. Monday, December 7, in the northbound lane of Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Cypress Avenue under crossing, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, Cardenas was walking along the interstate 5 Freeway when he was hit by a Kenworth big rig that was traveling northbound on the freeway at approximately 55 mph.

Cardenas was thrown to the right shoulder of the freeway and sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the big rig, Guillermo Campos Jr., 43, of Sacramento, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. The truck sustained moderate damage to the right front bumper.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
