Merced County, California (November 7, 2020) – Jose Garcia, 64, of Planada, has been identified as one of the three persons who were injured in an alleged DUI crash on Saturday morning in the McSwain area of Merced County, authorities said.
The major injury crash happened at the intersection of North Gurr Road and Highway 140 at about 4:29 a.m.
As per the CHP report, a Nissan Altima, driven by Xavier Gurr, 31, of Turlock, was traveling southbound on Gurr Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a 2014 Freightliner that was driving westbound on Highway 140.
Gurr’s Altima reportedly struck the big rig between its gas tank and the right rear tire, causing the truck to catch on fire.

Garcia sustained minor injuries in the collision.
Alison Pernsteiner, 30, of Turlock, who was a passenger in the Altima, sustained serious injuries to her abdomen and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Gurr, who was determined to be driving under the influence, suffered serious injuries in the accident. Gurr was placed under arrest and released in the care of Memorial Hospital in Los Banos.
The crash remains under investigation.
