Randall Hasper Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on State Route 54 in National City
Randall Hasper ID’d as Man Killed in National City Car Accident on State Route 54 near Interstate 5

National City, California (October 1, 2020) – Randall Craig Hasper, 69, of Chula Vista, has been identified as the man who was killed Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash in National City, according to a press release by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The deadly accident, which was reported at about 5:40 a.m. Friday, September 25, happened on State Route 54, just east of Interstate 5 and west of National City Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP, a grey Lexus SUV, driven by Hasper, was heading westbound on State Route 54, approaching the Interstate 5 junction when, for an undetermined reason, it veered off the roadway and crashed through a fence before it plunged into the Sweetwater River.
The SUV became submerged, the CHP said.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and pulled Hasper from the water.
The paramedics then performed CPR on Hasper. Despite life-saving measures, Hasper did not survive his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities said Hasper was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
All westbound lanes of SR-54 to southbound I-5 were shut down while the crews worked at the scene.
It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The CHP is investigating the crash.
