Maria De La Luz Torres ID’d as Palmdale Woman Killed in Sylmar Car Accident on Interstate 5 near Roxford Street

Sylmar, California (September 30, 2020) – Authorities have identified the woman who died in a traffic accident involving four vehicles Tuesday morning in the Sylmar area as Maria De La Luz Torres, 66, of Palmdale.
The deadly multi-vehicle crash happened at about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 in the southbound lane of Interstate 5, just north of Roxford Street.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a Subaru Crosstrek, a Peterbilt dump truck, an International Tractor-trailer, and a Ford Explorer, which is owned by Homeland Security.
Details of what led up to the collision were not immediately available, but the authorities said the Ford Explorer acquired damage to its left front tire and hood after the crash.

Torres, who was the driver of the Subaru Crosstrek, was declared dead at the scene. The male driver of the Ford Explorer was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center with major injuries.
The drivers of the big rig and the dump truck were uninjured in the crash.
The right three southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed for several hours while the authorities investigated the cause of the deadly crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
