Twentynine Palms, California (September 11, 2020) – A sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized with minor injuries following a two-vehicle accident that took place Thursday afternoon in Twentynine Palms.

The two vehicles crashed at about 1:20 p.m., September 10, on Hillside Avenue near Sun Valley Drive.

The mishap began when 42-year-old James Chien, driving a white 1973 Chevrolet K20, got distracted and failed to stop for a posted stop sign. A fully marked patrol car traveling on Sun Valley Drive then hit the Chevrolet on its side.

The initial report indicated that Chien was looking at street signs prior to the collision.

Minor Injuries Sustained in Twentynine Palms Crash 

Meanwhile, the deputy was hospitalized at Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries sustained in the wreck.

Chien, a Joshua Tree resident, possibly was not injured as following the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
