Jesus Valdes, Elisha Valdes Injured in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 53 in Clearlake
Jesus Valdes and Elisha Valdes ID’d as Couple Injured in Clearlake Car Accident on Highway 53 near Oglin Canyon Road

Clearlake, California (September 2, 2020) – Jesus R. Valdes, 53, of Novato and Elisha Valdes, 49, of Clearlake Oaks, have been identified as the husband and wife who were hospitalized after being involved in a fatal crash Tuesday morning in Clearlake, Lake County.
The deadly three-vehicle happened at around 9:16 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, on Highway 53, just north of Oglin Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 41-year-old Clearlake woman was driving a 2005 Mercedes ML350 northbound on Highway 53 at about 70 mph when she crossed over a broken yellow center line into the opposite lane to pass a large vehicle.
For unknown reasons, the Mercedes collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Jesus Valdes. A 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by Elisha Valdes, was following the Toyota.
The Nissan ultimately struck the Toyota on the driver’s side, authorities said.
As a result of the collision, all three vehicles acquired major damage and were disabled on the road.

The driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of the family.
Jesus Valdes was taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center with major injuries. Elisha Valdes was transported to Adventist Health Clear Lake with minor injuries.
Both Jesus and Elisha Valdes were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. The Clearlake woman was not wearing her seat belt.
Both lanes of Highway 53 were blocked for several hours due to the crash. Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
