32-Year-Old Santa Cruz Man Suffers Major Injuries in Scotts Valley Motorcycle Accident on State Highway 17 near Sugarloaf Road

Scotts Valley, California (August 31, 2020) – A motorcyclist was struck and seriously injured by a big rig Friday afternoon in Scotts Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The major injury collision happened at around 3:16 p.m. Friday, August 28, on Highway 17, just north of Sugarloaf Road.
The CHP said a 32-year-old Santa Cruz man was riding his motorcycle southbound alongside a 2014 Peterbilt truck on Highway 17 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the bike and went down on the pavement.
The motorcyclist was then struck by the trailer of the big rig.
Major Injury Motorcycle Accident on Highway 17 in Scotts Valley
First responders arrived at the scene and rendered aid to the motorcycle rider. The patient was then transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with major injuries. The name and current condition of the rider were not available.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
