Pilot Dies in Fresno County Helicopter Crash near Coalinga Airport

Fresno County, California (August 20, 2020) – A pilot battling a wildfire died when his helicopter crashed Wednesday morning in western Fresno County, according to authorities.
The deadly crash happened at about 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, near the New Coalinga Municipal Airport.
Authorities said the Bell UH-1H helicopter was on a water dropping mission on the Hills Fire when it crashed under unclear circumstances.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard the helicopter, was killed in the crash. His name was withheld pending notification of the family.
No other details about the accident were given.
The crash remains under investigation.
