Boulder Creek Woman Injured in DUI Crash on Highway 17 in Scotts Valley

Scotts Valley, California (July 31, 2020) – A woman was injured early Friday morning in an alleged DUI crash at an intersection in Scotts Valley, according to a California Highway Patrol.  

The crash occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on Highway 17 at Vine Hill Road.  

As per the CHP report, a 2014 Infiniti 250, driven by Marco Ochoa Gonzalez, 25, of Manteca, and a 2019 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a Watsonville man, both were traveling northbound on Highway 17.  

The Infiniti reportedly made an illegal U-turn at Vine Hill Road and was hit on the left side by the Sonata.

A 30-year-old Boulder Creek woman, who was riding as a passenger in the Infiniti, was transported to Dominican Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Sonata was uninjured.  

Gonzalez and another passenger, Albert James Blanco, 38, of San Jose, fled the scene on foot but were later arrested. Authorities said the Infiniti was reported stolen earlier that morning in the Scotts Valley area.  

Ochoa was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of felony stolen vehicle possession, felony hit-and-run, felony DUI and resisting arrest.   

Blanco was also arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.  

The accident remains under investigation.
