Miguel Gonzalez Killed in Ice Cream Truck Crash on Shamrock Boulevard in Duarte

Duarte, California (July 19, 2020) – The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has identified the driver who died in a traffic accident involving an ice cream truck Saturday evening in Duarte as Miguel Colon Gonzalez, 29, of Duarte.  

The deadly collision happened at around 6:12 p.m. Saturday, July 18, on Shamrock Boulevard, just south of Hurstview Avenue.  

Authorities determined that Gonzalez was driving southbound on Shamrock Avenue at a high rate of speed when his 1997 Honda collided head-on with a 1988 Chevrolet that traveling northbound on Shamrock Boulevard at about 10 mph.  

The Honda was trapped under the truck after the crash. First responders arrived at the scene and extricated one victim from the wreckage.  

Gonzalez was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the ice cream truck, a 61-year-old Montebello man, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.  

Authorities said both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.  

No one else was injured in the crash.  

The crash remains under investigation.
