Christopher Ortiz ID’d as Man Killed in McFarland Car Accident on Highway 43 near Sherwood Avenue

McFarland, California (June 26, 2020) – The man who died in a traffic accident early Friday morning near McFarland in Kern County has been identified as Christopher Ortiz, 34, of Wasco.
The fatal crash happened a little after 3:30 a.m. on Highway 43 near Sherwood Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, a BMW was heading westbound on Sherwood Avenue. At the same time, a Dodge Ram pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 43.
The driver of the BMW failed to yield the right-of-way to the Dodge pickup and collided with the vehicle. As a result of the crash, both vehicles ended up in a nearby canal and were submerged in water.
It remains unclear whether the BMW driver allegedly ran a red light at the intersection before entering.
Fatal Car Accident on Highway 43 near Sherwood Avenue in Kern County
Ortiz, who was the driver of the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Dodge pickup was not injured in the accident.
No further details about the crash were immediately disclosed.
The accident remains under investigation.
