Santa Cruz, California (June 11, 2020) – A driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a head-on crash in Santa Cruz, according to a local news source.

The two-car accident happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 on Highway 1, just south of Wilder Ranch.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2012 GMC Acadia was traveling on Highway 1 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted into the opposite lane and sideswiped an oncoming Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 57-year-old Santa Cruz man.

The crash sparked a fire that was contained by firefighters.

Driver Hospitalized After Car Accident on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz

The Jeep driver sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Acadia fled the scene on foot. Authorities said the vehicle was reported stolen.

No other details about the crash were immediately provided.
