David Sims Dies after Multi-Car Accident at Highway 99 and Neal Road in Chico

Chico, California (June 11, 2020) – David Sims, 55, of Los Molinos, has been identified as one of the two persons killed in a multi-vehicle crash that left five other persons injured on Wednesday night in Chico, according to the Butte County Coroner’s Office.

The deadly accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 99 at Neal Road, at about 12:47 p.m., on June 10.

The California Highway Patrol said a big rig, operated by Jobanjit Singh, 22, of Sacramento, was traveling northbound on Highway 99 when, for unknown reasons, it failed to stop at the intersection. Unfortunately, the big rig rear-ended a 2015 Honda Accord.

As a result of the collision, the Honda Accord reportedly crashed into several other vehicles, including a 1995 Honda Civic, a 1994 Buick, a 2004 Honda Odyssey, and a 2019 Chevrolet at the intersection.

Sims and Lupe Ortiz, 55, also from Los Molinos, were killed in the crash. Both parties were a driver and a passenger in the Honda Accord.

Five other patients who were involved in the accident were transported to a hospital in unknown conditions.

Highway of 99 between Southgate Lane and Durham Pentz Road was closed for an unknown period.

Intoxication was not believed to have played a role in the mishap.

The crash remains under investigation.
