Santa Maria, California (June 6, 2020) – Nabor Ortizlopez, 28, of Santa Maria, was among four people who were injured Friday evening in a three-vehicle crash that killed two people west of Santa Maria.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 6:05 p.m. Friday, June 5, on Highway 166 near Bonita School Road.

The CHP said Miguel Preciadonava, 20, of Santa Maria, was driving a 2004 Nissan 350Z eastbound on Highway 166 at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the right dirt shoulder of the highway when he lost control of his car and spun across the highway near Bonita School Road.

The Nissan 350Z then collided head-on with a 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Oscar Campos, 30, of Santa Maria. Due to the impact, the Altima rolled over and came to a stop on its roof just off the westbound shoulder of West Black Road.

According to the CHP, the Nissan 350Z continued eastbound in the oncoming lane and eventually collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Cabalt compact car, driven by Ortizlopez.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated the occupants of both cars from the wreckage

Both Campos and Preciadonava were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Two passengers in the Nissan Altima, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, were airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with critical injuries.

Ortizlopez and a third passenger in the Nissan Altima, Beatriz Estrada, 28, of Santa Maria, sustained minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the scene.

Highway 166 was closed for several hours during the investigation.

The accident remains under investigation by the CHP.
