Oscar Pereyra ID’d as Suspect Arrested after Fatal Santa Barbara DUI Accident on Highway 154 and East Camino Cielo

Santa Barbara, California (June 6, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Friday morning alleged DUI accident that killed one person in Santa Barbara.
The accident happened on Highway 154 and East Camino Cielo, at around 10:45 a.m.
A Toyota pickup truck, driven by Oscar Pereyra, 61, of Santa Barbara, was traveling eastbound on Highway 154 when, for unknown reasons, it swerved across the double yellow lines into the pathway of a westbound Hyundai Sonata.
The Toyota finally collided head-on with the Hyundai, operated by Michael Kai Liu, 31, of Arroyo Grande. The Hyundai flipped over due to the collision, the police said.
Pereyra was trapped in the wreckage and was extricated by the first responders who arrived at the scene.

Liu was declared dead at the crash site.
Pereyra was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major injuries. Pereyra was later arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
Traffic on Highway 154 between Cathedral Oaks Road and Paradise Road was stopped for several hours following the mishap.
