Man Killed in Rolando Bicycle Accident on University Avenue near Alamo Drive

San Diego, California (May 28, 2020) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in the Rolando neighborhood of San Diego, according to police.
The fatal crash happened just after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in the 6600 block of University Avenue near Alamo Drive.
Authorities said a man in his 40s was riding his bicycle westbound on a sidewalk when, for unknown reasons, he was hit by a red Toyota Prius.
The bicyclist was ejected from his bike upon the impact and landed several feet away.
The bicycle rider was taken by responding medical personnel to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Abbas Shariff Arrested in Hit-and-Run Accident in Rolando
The driver of the Prius, Abbas Karama Shariff, 30, stopped briefly at the crash site and then drove off, according to the authorities.
Authorities later found the Prius in the 6800 block of El Cajon Boulevard, less than a mile from the site of the scene of the deadly accident.
Shariff was arrested during a pedestrian stop in the 7100 block of Central Avenue in Lemon Grove just after 9:00 p.m. He was eventually booked into San Diego Central jail early Wednesday morning.
The accident remains under investigation.
