21-year-old man killed after getting flat tire on 10 Freeway in Pomona

Pomona, California (April 12, 2020) – Christopher Gilpineda of Montebello has been identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as the man who died after being hit by a vehicle while fixing a flat tire on Interstate 10 Freeway in Pomona on Saturday night.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 11:25 p.m. April 11, on 10 Freeway near Kellogg Drive.

Gilpineda had been driving a 2017 Honda Accord in the No. 3 lane of the freeway when he developed a flat tire.

Mr. Gilpineda exited his vehicle and was hit by an approaching 2018 Honda Civic.

Gilpineda, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The condition of the driver of the Honda Civic was not immediately established.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
