1 Dies after Deadly Collision on 580 Freeway near Berkeley Curve in Oakland

Oakland, California (April 1, 2020) – One person suffered fatal injuries following a Tuesday night collision in the area of Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash occurred a while after 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, March31, on westbound 580 Freeway, just east of the Berkeley Curve.

As per the CHP officials, at least two vehicles crashed for reasons still under investigation.

Firefighters responded to the scene and declared one person dead at the crash site. The name of the deceased was not immediately released awaiting notification of next of kin.

Officials said that they are yet to confirm if any person was injured in the crash.

A SigAlert was issued closing all westbound lanes. Traffic was reportedly diverted off at the West Street off-ramp and drivers were advised to avoid the location.

The incident remains under investigation. Witnesses are urged to call the CHP Oakland office at 510-450-3821.
