1 Killed in Merced County Pedestrian Crash on Highway 59 near Highway 152
Merced County, California (February 20, 2020) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on Tuesday night in Merced County, according to authorities.
The fatal collision happened on Highway 59, just south of Merced near Highway 152 at around about 10:30 p.m.
As per the CHP officials, a car was driving on the highway when it veered off the roadway and hit a pedestrian for reasons still under investigation. The impact caused the vehicle to also hit a power pole.

Responding emergency crews declared the victim dead at the crash site. The name of the deceased was not immediately provided awaiting notification of next of kin.
The pole was repaired by the PG&E crews.
It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Authorities closed Highway 59 and Highway 152 for several hours to give way to an on-scene investigation.
An investigation is underway.
