Garden Grove Pedestrian Crash; Van Drives onto Sidewalk along Westminster Avenue Killing Woman, Injuring Man
Garden Grove, California (January 30, 2020) – A 77-year-old woman died, and a 79-year-old man was hospitalized after they were struck by a van that veered onto a sidewalk in Garden Grove Wednesday afternoon, a local news source reported.
As per the article, shortly after 5:00 p.m., a 45-year-old man was driving a Toyota Sienna along Westminster Avenue, west of Brookhurst Street when, for unknown reasons, veered onto the north sidewalk.
The van struck the man and the woman and ended up on top of them.
Several good Samaritans pushed the van off the victims before paramedics arrived and transported them to UCI Medical Center.
The woman had major trauma and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The man was being treated for multiple fractures.
Authorities said a 3-year-old boy who was a passenger in the van was taken to CHOC Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the van was examined at the scene by officers and did not show any signs of impairment. He was not arrested.
Police are collecting more information to establish what caused the van to veer off the roadway.
