Oxnard, California (January 30, 2020) – An off-duty officer attached to the Oxnard Police Department died when he was involved in a motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon near an intersection in Oxnard, a local news source reported.

Officer Nathan Martin, 45, collided with a tractor-trailer at about 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of Third Street and Campton Drive.

As per the article, Oxnard Police Department officers were some of the first to respond to the scene where they discovered the victim was one of their own.

Oxnard police said Martin was heading home after work from the station on a personal motorcycle when a tractor-trailer turned left in front of him.

The 20-year-old veteran of the department was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but, unfortunately, died of his injuries.

Martin was recently working as a school resource officer at Hueneme High School. He left the school about an hour before the crash, went to the station, and then left for home.

Details about the driver of the tractor-trailer were not available.

The collision is under an active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
