Auburn, California (January 11, 2020) – 78-year-old Janice Tate has been identified as the person injured in a traffic collision early Friday morning in the area of Auburn, according to authorities.

The deadly collision happened at about 8:15 a.m. Friday, January 10, on Highway 49, just north of Joeger Road and south of the Nevada County line.

As per the CHP officials, a 68-year-old Auburn woman in a Honda Accord was pulling out of a private road when it made a left turn onto the highway and entered into the pathway of a northbound KIA Sportage SUV traveling at 55-60 miles per hour. The SUV driven by Tate then veered to the right and crashed on the left side of the Honda. Due to the collision, the SUV overturned on its roof.

Fatal Crash on Highway 49 in Auburn

Responding emergency crews along with medical personnel were freed from their cars. The Honda driver sustained severe injuries and was taken to an area hospital where she later died. The deceased’s name was not immediately released.

Tate suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Authorities did not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors in the collision.

An investigation is underway.
