La Mesa, California (January 8, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle on Tuesday night in La Mesa, according to the police.

The incident took place at around 6:15 p.m. January 7, on Grossmont Center Drive at Center Drive.

Police said a man in his 50s was trying to cross Grossmont Center Drive at Center Drive in a marked crosswalk when a 2004 Nissan SUV struck him.

Man Seriously Hurt in La Mesa Pedestrian Crash

The La Mesa police and paramedics responded to the incident and rendered aid to the victim. The victim was taken to a hospital with a fracture to his hip and a compound fracture to his lower right leg.

The 41-year-old Poway resident who was driving the SUV was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI causing serious bodily injury. He was reportedly on probation for a previous DUI.

The crash is under investigation.
