Rigoberto Calmo ID’d as Man Killed in Escondido Car Crash at Del Dios Highway and Mount Israel Road
Escondido, California (December 6, 2019) – The man who died in a head-on crash that happened Thursday afternoon in Escondido has been identified as Rigoberto Carillo Calmo, 47, of Escondido, a local news source reported.
As per the article, the California Highway Patrol said the collision occurred at around 2 p.m. November 28, in the area of Del Dios Highway and Mount Israel Road.
Calmo was traveling at an unsafe speed in a 2006 Toyota Tundra when he entered a turn. Authorities said wet road conditions may have caused Calmo to cross into the opposing traffic, where he crashed head-on into a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek.
Calmo was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
The driver of the Subaru, a 27-year-old Encinitas woman, was hospitalized at Palomar Medical Center with major but non-life-threatening injuries.
CHP is investigating the accident.
