Police Say Crystal Oaxaca Crawled into Traffic, Struck and Killed by Car in Fresno
Fresno, California (November 7, 2019) – A woman died when she crawled into traffic and was struck by a passing vehicle Tuesday night in Fresno, according to police.
Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 38-year-old Crystal Oaxaca.
Fresno police said the accident took place at about 9:30 p.m. near Blackstone and Ashlan avenues.
According to police, Oaxaca had left a nearby store with her friend and the friend had left her sitting on the sidewalk. For unknown reasons, the woman lay down on the ground, crawled into the road and then lay flat in the path of a passing vehicle.
Traffic Enforcement Bureau Commander Lt. Mike Brogdon said a 26-year-old woman pulled out of a nearby Motel 6 in her pickup truck and did not notice the person in the road.
The driver was traveling southbound in the number two lane when she ran over something. She stopped thinking she had run over debris or something.
Oaxaca was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities tested the pickup driver and cleared her of being intoxicated.
The incident is under an active investigation by the Fresno Police Department.
