One Person Killed, Three Others Injured in Fiery Fatal Crash on Highway 299 in Redding

Redding, California (November 7, 2019) – One person was killed and three others were injured Wednesday night in a traffic accident in Redding, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash happened just after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6 on Highway 299 at Newfound Way.

CHP said a deputy with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) was responding to a call in the Rock Creek area and was heading westbound on Highway 299W when a deer walked into the roadway. The deputy then swerved and his vehicle struck the deer.

The impact caused the deputy’s vehicle to collide with another car that was traveling eastbound on 299W. As a result of the crash, the deputy’s vehicle veered off the roadway while the other vehicle burst into flames.

One person in the burning car was declared dead at the scene. Two other occupants sustained major and moderate injuries.

The deputy suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical in Redding.

299W was shut down about 2.5 miles west from Shasta following the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
