Gilberto Padilla Killed in San Jose Car Accident on Highway 101
Gilberto Padilla ID’d as Victim of Fatal Highway 101 Crash near McKee Road in San Jose
San Jose, California (October 31, 2019) – Gilberto Delacruz Padilla, 54, has been identified as the man who died in a two-car accident that happened early Saturday morning on Highway 101 in San Jose.
The tragic accident happened at about 3:35 a.m. Saturday, October 26 on Highway 101 near McKee Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Padilla was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on Highway 101 when for an unknown reason, he swerved left and cut across several lanes. The Cobalt was struck on its left rear corner by a 1990s Mercedes SUV that was also traveling northbound on Highway 101.
The Mercedes then continued traveling and slammed into the guard rail. The Cobalt went back across all the lanes and came to a rest on the shoulder of the highway.
Padilla sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the SUV, only identified as a 47-year-old San Jose man, did not sustain any serious injuries.
One lane of the highway was temporarily closed as the authorities worked the scene.
No further information was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
