Gilroy, CA: Fatal Big Rig Crash on Highway 25

Gilroy, California (October 15, 2019) – A 49-year-old San Juan Bautista man was killed Tuesday morning in a traffic accident involving two big rigs in Gilroy, the California Highway Patrol said.

The fatal crash happened at about 7:36 a.m. on Highway 25 near Bolsa Road, just north of the San Benito County line. Highway 25 is also known as Hollister Road.

The CHP said a cement truck was traveling on Highway 25 when it collided with a semi-truck that was exiting the Zbest recycling plant.

One of the trucks rolled over after the impact, spilling oil and fuel on approximately 200 feet of the roadway.

The driver of one of the trucks, only identified as a 49-year-old San Juan Bautista man, died in the crash.  The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The other driver, a 49-year-old San Jose man, sustained minor injuries.

The highway was shut down as the investigation and cleanup took place.

The accident remains under investigation.
