Huntington Beach, California (October 6, 2019) – Five people were injured in utility explosion during an Oktoberfest celebration at a shopping and dining complex in Huntington Beach Saturday night, according to authorities.

The incident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, October 5 at the Old World Village.

Authorities said the accident occurred when a series of explosions in an underground electrical vault sent flames shooting into the sky during the annual event at Old World Village.

The first explosion splattered heated mineral oil used to cool the transformers and likely ignited subsequent blasts.

Firefighters responded to the scene to help the involved parties.

Two restaurant employees and two fire crews suffered minor injuries as a result of the blasts and were treated at the scene. A third restaurant employee had moderate to severe injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
