Santa Maria, California (October 4, 2019) – One person was killed, and four others were hospitalized in a traffic collision involving a big rig in Orcutt on Friday afternoon, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

Santa Barbara County Fire Department said the collision took place in the afternoon hours on October 4, on Highway 1 near Solomon road.

Authorities said a big rig loaded with celery collided with two other vehicles of unspecified built. Due to the impact of the collision, the big rig overturns, and the driver was trapped inside.

The driver of the big rig was extracted and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The victim was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Four people suffered minor injuries and were rushed by ground ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.

The accident resulted in the closure of both directions of the Highway while emergency crews cleared the roadway.

The investigation is underway.
