Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago Killed in Gilroy Car Accident on Highway 152
Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago Identified as Man Killed in Gilroy Car Crash on Highway 152 near Bloomfield Avenue

Santa Clara County, California (September 20, 2019) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on crash in Gilroy as Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago, 27, of Merced County.
The fatal crash was reported at about 7:57 a.m. Wednesday, September 18 on Highway 152, just east of Bloomfield Avenue and west of Lovers Lane.
The California Highway Patrol said a 2000 Ford driven by Phillip Romero, 31, of Fresno, was traveling westbound on Highway 152 at about 60 mph when for an unknown reason, the Ford crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided head-on with a 2014 Toyota driven by De Jesus-Santiago, who was heading eastbound on Highway 152.
De Jesus-Santiago died at the scene and his passenger, Sergio Cruz, 27, of Delhi, was taken by ground ambulance to San Jose Regional Hospital with major injuries.
Romero was airlifted to San Jose Regional Hospital with major injuries.
Authorities closed Highway 152 for four hours while they investigated the accident and cleared the crash site.
It’s undetermined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
