Fresno County, California (August 6, 2019) – Valerie Gonzales has been identified as the Good Samaritan who was injured in a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Friday night in Fresno County, according to a local news source.

The accident took place at about 8:50 p.m. August 2, on Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue, approximately 12 miles south of Fresno and just east of Riverdale.

According to the CHP, a woman was driving a gray Kia Sportage (midsize SUV) when she tried to make a legal passing on the two-lane highway and collided head-on with another vehicle. A family of four was riding in the second vehicle.

The driver of the Kia, identified as Maria Ramirez, 20, of Arkansas, died at the scene of the collision.

Gonzales, who witnessed the crash, pulled over to assist the crash victims. She was then struck by another car, which ended up colliding head-on with an 18-wheeler.

Gonzales was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

The family of four was also taken to the hospital for treatment minor-to-major injuries. Three of them were children aged between 6 and 15.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
