Jaime Rodriguez Zuniga Seriously injured in American Canyon Pedestrian Accident on Highway 29

American Canyon, California (July 26, 2019) – Authorities have identified 55-year-old Jaime Rodriguez Zuniga of American Canyon as the pedestrian severely injured after a hit-and-run collision Thursday morning in the area of American Canyon.
The collision occurred at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, on Highway 29 and Rio Del Mar.
As per the report, Zuniga was struck by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Martha Ruth Morales Barrera of American Canyon. Officials said Barrera was heading south on Highway 29 when they allegedly ran a red light at Rio Del Mar and hit Zuniga.
Zuniga was reportedly walking west of Highway 29 in a crosswalk to a Starbucks, where he goes daily for a morning coffee and to chat with friends and members of the community.

Responding firefighters found the pedestrian lying in the roadway with severe injuries following the crash. Zuniga was airlifted to U.C. Davis Medical Center for treatment of a fractured pelvis and broken bones in his legs and arms and was set to undergo multiple surgeries on Friday, July 26th.
Authorities affirmed Barrera did not stop to render aid and reportedly fled south before turning on Poco Way. Two young men were occupying the Barrera’s car at the time.
Officials said a white sedan possibly an Acura, was later seen parked in the 400 block of Canyon Creek Drive with major damage to its front windshield.
Barrera later turned herself in to the authorities and was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
