Elderly Driver Dies in Apple Valley Car Accident on Interstate 15 near Stoddard Wells Road
Apple Valley, California (July 25, 2019) – An elderly Apple Valley driver was killed and a passenger was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a traffic collision in the Apple Valley area, according to a local news source.
The deadly accident took place at about 2:11 p.m. on Interstate 15, just south of the Stoddard Wells/ Bell Mountain.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by a 44-year-old Fremont man, was parked on the right shoulder due to some mechanical issues when, for an unknown reason, a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup towing a recreational trailer slammed into the back.
The front of the Dodge was wedged underneath the semi-tractor trailer after the impact.
Apple Valley Man, 84, Killed in Fatal Car Accident in Apple Valley Thursday
The driver of the Dodge, identified as an 84-year-old Apple Valley man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
A female passenger in the Dodge was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency responders. She was then airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.
The occupants of the semi-tractor trailer were uninjured in the wreck.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
