Fresno County, California (January 7, 2021) – Five people were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision near Firebaugh in Fresno County, according to a local news source.

The deadly fiery crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 on Interstate 5 near Panoche Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol,

The CHP said a pickup truck, occupied by five people, was heading northbound on Interstate 5 when, for undetermined reasons, it crossed over the center median into the southbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming big rig.

Both vehicles caught fire after the impact.

Deadly Head-On Crash on Interstate 5 in Fresno County

All five people in the pickup truck were killed in the crash. The victims were only identified as a 31-year-old pregnant woman, her children 1, 8, and 10-years-old and her 52-year-old mother-in-law. Their names have not been disclosed.

The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries.

The southbound lanes were closed while the investigation and cleanup took place. It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
