Fairfield, California (January 8, 2020) – Authorities have identified Walter Ashurst, 49, as the pedestrian killed in a traffic collision on Tuesday morning in the area of Fairfield.

The crash happened at around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, on North Texas Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Ashurst was struck by a vehicle for reasons still under investigation.

Responding emergency crews transported Ashurst to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities did not believe impairment to have contributed to the accident.

As a result of the incident, officials closed N. Texas Street for an extended period of time on Tuesday.

Officials mentioned that a video footage showed many motorists were present at the time of the incident and witnesses are urged to contact the Fairfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit and speak with Traffic Officer Seth Jamel at 707-428-7300.

The incident remains under investigation.
