2 Women Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 91 Freeway in Long Beach

Long Beach, California (July 25, 2021) – Two women were killed early Sunday morning in a wrong-way, head-on collision on a freeway in North Long Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash happened at around 5:29 a.m. on the 91 Freeway at the Atlantic Avenue on-ramp.

The CHP said a 21-year-old Palmdale woman was driving a 2016 Honda westbound on the eastbound side of the 91 Freeway when her vehicle collided head-on with a 2016 Chrysler driven by a Hemet woman.

One of the vehicles caught fire after the impact.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their respective families.

Authorities closed the northbound connector road from the northbound 710 Freeway to the eastbound 91 Freeway while the investigation and cleanup took place.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
