2 Die, 4 Hospitalized after Orinda Car Accident on Highway 24
Orinda, California (July 1, 2019) – A wrong-way motorist and his passenger were killed in a head-on collision near Orinda early Sunday morning, according to a local news source.
The tragic wreck was reported to California Highway Patrol officials at around 1:52 a.m. June 30, on Highway 24 westbound between Fish Ranch and Wilder roads and involved two vehicles.
According to the CHP, a black Toyota Camry was heading westbound on Highway 24 when it collided head-on with a silver Saturn Vue that was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes.
Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 24 in Orinda Sunday
The driver of the Saturn, a 35-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The male passenger in the Saturn was declared dead at the scene. Their names have not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The driver of the Camry, a 25-year-old Daly City man, and his four passengers were all transported to hospitals with major injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were considered factors in the collision.
No other details were immediately provided.
The crash remains under investigation.
